“God is with those who obey him...” Psalm 14:5 NLT Are you feeling alone in life? You may feel abandoned by a spouse who seems distant... or perhaps you’ve gone through a divorce and the initial relief has turned into loneliness. God is with those who obey him. Another version says, “God is present in the company of the righteous” Psalm 14:5 NIV. Maybe you started on a grand project with others cheering you on and one by one they’ve drifted away to other things... Or you embarked on a journey of healing or therapy and those who once supported you have had to get back to their own lives, their own “stuff” to deal with.
God is with those who obey him. Perhaps a parent has passed or your best friend moved away and you’re missing the camaraderie, the joys you once shared. Whatever has left you feeling alone, I’m here to remind you that God is with those who obey him—those who love him and embrace his salvation for their souls. If you back up to the beginning of Psalm 14, verse one reads, “Only fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’” Typically we assign this verse to unbelievers—the unsaved, the lost, the wicked. But how often do we as believers fall into the trap of feeling alone? Abandoned by everyone—including God? God is here, my friend. He is close. Sometimes you just have to believe his word and act upon it. I love the verse that says, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you” James 4:8 NKJV. Stir your hopes, stir your heart. God has not left. He has not forsaken you. He is with those who obey him, the generation of the righteous. Take a moment now to pause and rest from your worries. Draw near and let him come close. Receive his strengthening, comforting, reassuring presence. Reflect on these verses and remind yourself of God’s promise to never leave, never forsake. You are not alone. God is with those who obey him. “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you.” Psalm 9:10 NLT “...God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5 NIV “For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’” Hebrews 13:5 NLT “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” James 4:8 NLT Next steps... start your journey in God! Thank you so much for reminding me that even though I feel God is far from me, He has not abandoned me, and will not, if I obey Him in my actions, and words.
