As the heat wave continues across the world, I’m incredibly thankful for a good, working air conditioner. The house has stayed comfortable and we’ve been able to focus on our tasks versus struggling to keep cool. Our neighbor’s air conditioner is another story. Bushes had grown around it, choking out the air it needed to function well. It was loud and ran continuously trying to keep up with the heat and complete its mission: to cool the house... I wonder how many of us are like that crowded air conditioner? We’ve been given a mission from the Lord. It may be simple or it may be far-reaching. Raise your family in the Lord, care for an aging parent – or on a broader scope, serve your country as a Marine or run for congress to make a difference in our nation’s future.
Whatever your mission is, it's almost guaranteed that something will try to crowd it out, throw a wrench in the plans or even tempt you to abort the mission. It could be intense spiritual warfare or it could be as simple as an overscheduled life. My neighbor’s air conditioner came that close to failing, until someone took a hedge trimmer to the bushes around it. If you’re feeling suffocated and stressed, the remedy is simple. Clear away the brush. Identify what’s crowding the mission and clouding your vision. What’s hindering you from completing your God-given task? Take a hedge trimmer to it and create space for yourself to breathe and be obedient to the call. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us...” Hebrews 12:1 NIV What's your misison in this season of life? Comment below; I'd love to hear. Photo by Rebe Pascual on Unsplas
