I realized the other day that I had let an important aspect of God’s word slip through my fingers. I was standing in a church service (which is a great place for self-realization) and it hit me. It may have been caused by the uncertainties of the pandemic... or I may have simply let my worries and doubts push the truth out of my heart. Jesus told His followers, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT).
Food and drink and clothing and shelter. “These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs” (Matthew 6:32). I’d allowed a mindset of trying to “be prepared” for the future and whatever it might hold to creep in and rob me of the simple fact that if I seek God first in everything then I have nothing to worry about. The finances will be there when I need them, the job—if it shifts—will be provided. All I need to do is seek God. Seek His kingdom and His righteousness. And all these things I’ve been so concerned about will be provided. If He’s first in my life, I can trust that if one door closes, another will open. My life is in His hands. I’ve relinquished my control into the hands of the One who created me and everything around me. Either I believe this truth—and live my life in a peaceful accordance with them—or I don’t. Either His word is trustworthy, or it isn’t. Either He is God and He cares about my every need, or... well, the opposite is unthinkable. I choose to believe that as I make Him my priority every single day, then I’ll never have to worry again. I’ll never have to strive or try to figure life out on my own. If you’ve ever wondered, God really does care about every detail of your life. Seek Him with me. Seek His rightness, and peace will filter in, guarding and keeping your heart and mind even in uncertain times. “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 "The steps of the godly are directed by the Lord. He delights in EVERY detail of their lives."
