They finally woke Jesus, shouting, “‘Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?’
When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:38-39 NLT
Can you imagine it? The raging sea was still. The roaring wind silenced. It was miraculous. But what Jesus said next was even more astounding. “‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’” Mark 4:40
It was difficult for the disciples to comprehend. Who was this man that even the wind and waves obeyed him? This man, who also told them they could speak to mountains and they would be removed? Or, when presented with five loaves and two fish, told the disciples, “You feed them.” You do the miraculous. You feed this crowd of 5,000 people. (Mark 11:23, Luke 9:14)
There is a spiritual principle here. A lesson that can help you conquer the anxiety in your heart. You don’t have to be overrun by the voices in your head. You don’t have to allow agitation to devour your soul. As a believer in Christ, you have the authority to determine what will rule in your life. God’s peace – or the world’s anxiety. God’s calm – or the world’s storm.
You decide, and then you must wage the war for the sanity of your soul by letting the peace of Christ Jesus rule in your heart. (Colossians 3:15)
You don’t have to let anxiety rule your life. Let God and his word comfort your soul.
“When anxiety overwhelms me, your consolation delights my soul.” Psalm 94:19 BSB
